This Isn't America by Paul Krugman
|
Last week an opinion piece in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz about the killing of Sheik Ahmed Yassin said, "This isn't America; the government did not invent intelligence material nor exaggerate the description of the threat to justify their attack."
So even in Israel, George Bush's America has become a byword for deception and abuse of power. And the administration's reaction to Richard Clarke's "Against All Enemies" provides more evidence of something rotten in the state of our government.
The truth is that among experts, what Mr. Clarke says about Mr. Bush's terrorism policy isn't controversial. The facts that terrorism was placed on the back burner before 9/11 and that Mr. Bush blamed Iraq despite the lack of evidence are confirmed by many sources — including "Bush at War," by Bob Woodward.
And new evidence keeps emerging for Mr. Clarke's main charge, that the Iraq obsession undermined the pursuit of Al Qaeda. From yesterday's USA Today: "In 2002, troops from the Fifth Special Forces Group who specialize in the Middle East were pulled out of the hunt for Osama bin Laden to prepare for their next assignment: Iraq. Their replacements were troops with expertise in Spanish cultures."

Is Clarke queer?
I have a question, and this is open to everyone who gives a wet sh*t if we find out Clarke is a Homosexual.
What does that take away from his testimony?
This is such a non issue and the "Liberal Media" eats every word up! and where is Bush? Golfing, at another fundraising event, is he golfing at a fundraiser? Wolf could have brought up this charges have yet to be discredited but that would require independant thought and I'm not quite sure any Pundit or news reader has a brain beyond reading from a prompter or that this is the sixth smeared whistle blower to come out and say these guys aren't in cemperorerororer has no clothes on and wham the "Liberal Media" wil be the first to report how beautiful the emperorers clothes really are!
There's a new tone in Washington alright!

Wolf Blitzer Reports:
BLITZER: John, I get the sense not only what Dr. Rice just said to you and other reporters at the White House, but what administration officials have been saying since the weekend, basically that Richard Clarke from their vantage point was a disgruntled former government official, angry because he didn’t get a certain promotion. He’s got a hot new book out now that he wants to promote. He wants to make a few bucks, and that his own personal life, they’re also suggesting that there are some weird aspects in his life as well, that they don’t know what made this guy come forward and make these accusations against the president. Is that the sense that you're getting, speaking to a wide range of officials?

UPDATE: CONDI WILL BE UNDER OATH...that's what I get for watching Fox yesterday morning.....
Condi to testify before the public (Not under oath)
This is clean up for the Bush administration if it's not under oath, it's not worth having. It's no suprise this would happen but let's see what comes out of it.
Don't listen to the Fox view of events, use the Internet first than decide.
UPDATE: This comes from Alberto R. Gonzales, Counsel to the President.
"Second, the Commission must agree in writing that it will not request additional public testimony from any White House official, including Dr. Rice. The National Security Advisor is uniquely situated to provide the Commission with information necessary to fulfill its statutory mandate"
If she goes before the Commision, they have to promise IN WRITING to back off the White House. Where in the constitution does it say our public officials can get away with BS like this?
The biggest intel faliure in our history doesn't phase these guys, that kind of promise is like cutting their feet off and telling them to walk home.

Iraqi defector behind America's WMD claims exposed as 'out-and-out fabricator, inother words aLiar
"A detailed investigation in the Los Angeles Timesrevealed that the source claiming to have seen mobile bioweapons labs was the brother of one of the senior aides to Ahmed Chalabi, the leader of the Iraqi National Congress, who recently boasted how the erroneous information provided by his group achieved his long-cherished goal of toppling Saddam."
See the pattern developing?

The Daily Howler scores once again.
WOODWARD (page 98-99): As for Saddam Hussein, the president ended the debate [about immediate military action against Iraq]. “I believe Iraq was involved, but I’m not going to strike them now. I don'’t have the evidence at this point.”
So it could be said that he "knew" Iraq was to blame and his gut reaction lead to attacking Saddam. So itreasonableable to assume that his administrations gathered dubious intel in order to satisfy the Gut reaction. This is something Bush wanted, war and after 9/11 with no evidence pointing towards Iraq he decided Saddam was public enemy number one.
Didn't the White House Vet this book?
What does Condi say on 60 minutes?
The 9/11 commission "is not concentrating on what happened on the day of September 11th."
Condi isn't a stupid person, she know you need to extend investigationtion beyond that one day. Im interested to see what Clintonnton administration did and didn't do and I want to see what the current administration has done. What should be said is she won't testify under oath, playing politics is what the Bush Administration does best.

Just finishing up Meet the press and wow Clarke hit it right out of the park.
It upsets me but doesn't surprise me that Timmy used Frists speech on the floor the other day but not his back tracking from his statements.
It's obvious that they haven't done very much of anything regarding terrorism and they decided to wage war because oil and empire, again, ignoring the terror threat.
We need new leadership!

A Satire...
Richard Clarke must be lying!!!
Here's your proof: CLARKE SAYS VOTED FOR GORE!
[MEET THE PRESS]
RUSSERT: Did you vote for George Bush in 2000?
CLARKE: No, I did not.
RUSSERT: You voted for Al Gore?
CLARKE: Yes, I did.
There you have it, Clarke has an Axe to grind, he's an obvious liar HE VOTED FOR AL GORE and we know those type of people.
______________________________________________________________________________________
Be prepared this is what they are going to use to discredit Clarke, he's a disgruntled Gore voter ignoring the fact that he is a registered Republican who voted for McCain in the Primary. I understand what they feel, I was a Republican (hold the gasps) once and I voted in the 2000 primary and I didn't vote for Bush, he wasn't a strong leader or have strong policies he was a Bush, they pushed him using Clinton Fatigue and the more I looked at Bush and Republicans in general and working with Republicans in general turned me off to the whole group, they weren't serious about issues they were interested in money and the bottom line. I relate more and more to Clarke every time I hear him speak.
This tidbit should help rein the Wingnuts in. If The Bush Administration didn't lie and it was all just bad intel and miscommunication than you are looking at a serious "Left wing Conspiracy"! Push the Left wing conspiracy on those wingnuts and see if they take the bait!

Bill Frist AKA Kitty Killer had his to say on the Clarke matter:
“Mr. Clarke has told two entirely different stories under oath,” Frist said in a speech from the Senate floor, alleging that Clarke said in 2002 that the Bush administration actively sought to address the threat posed by al-Qaida before the attacks.
Later he ran from his statement directly accusing Clarke of perjury, telling reporters that he personally had no knowledge that there were any discrepancies between Clarke’s two appearances. But he said, “Until you have him under oath both times, you don’t know.”
Stick to killing cats Frist, it's what you're good at!

GOP Grandstand
They want to declassify Clarke's previous testimony to find juicy tid-bits to Fox twist!
~In a highly unusual move, key Republicans in Congress are seeking to declassify testimony that former White House terrorism adviser Richard Clarke gave in 2002 about the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attack, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said Friday.
Frist said the intent was to determine whether Clarke lied under oath — either in 2002 or this week — when he appeared before a bipartisan Sept. 11 commission and sharply criticized President Bush's handling of the war on terror.
"Until you have him under oath both times you don't know," Frist said.
One Republican aide, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the request had come from House Speaker Dennis Hastert and Rep. Porter Goss, the chairman of the House intelligence committee.~
I have a plan, you Get Condi to go under oath, in public and declassify her previous testimony maybe we'll talk. Better yet, let's just release everything in question and see where the chips fall.

Am I the last to know?
apparently Condi is leaving her job at the end of this year, I didn't know this.
From the NY Times
"As she prepares to leave her job at the end of the year, Ms. Rice, the president's national security adviser, now finds herself at the center of a political storm, furiously defending both the White House and her own reputation."
Do they have a crystal ball and see a Kerry win in '04 or am I just ill informed on the matter?

Fuc* the FCC!
I just caught the new Maroon 5 video "This love" and was pissed to see what the decency patrol did to the video.
Before: The lead singer rolling around with a topless woman in hot pants during the second verse. Nothings seen but her naked back.
After: DIGITAL FLOWERS covering almost everything except their heads!
Why do that it's been without digital flowers for months, Did someone break their wrist or tear a tendon in their arm enjoying that scene too much?
These Nazis want to censor everything you read, see, or hear. I don't want television to become PAX TV, some BS bible thumpin' boring family propaganda programming...I don't pay money to get sanitized television. We can see car bombs go off or innocent people get mowed down my machine guns in Iraq but heaven forbid we hear the F-WORD!
This control grid they are trying to establish over our lives has to scare you, do you think they will stop with Howard Stern or MTV videos? They'll slam you with whatever THEY decide is "indecency", can you pay $27,000 per curse word? Do you want it to be like Demolition Man, you get fined for cursing? If I want to be an atheist with a dirty mouth... I can be, a good Christian, a vegetarian that cheats occasionally on my diet or whatever it's the choice I get being an American.
Leave our TV and Music videos Alone, stay out of our lives, we don't need or want your supervision!

"So, point five, that process which was initiated in the first week in February, uh, decided in principle, uh in the spring to add to the existing Clinton strategy and to increase CIA resources, for example, for covert action, five-fold, to go after Al Qaeda."
" Over the course of the summer — last point — they developed implementation details, the principals met at the end of the summer, approved them in their first meeting, changed the strategy by authorizing the increase in funding five-fold, changing the policy on Pakistan, changing the policy on Uzbekistan, changing the policy on the Northern Alliance assistance.
And then changed the strategy from one of rollback with Al Qaeda over the course of five years, which it had been, to a new strategy that called for the rapid elimination of Al Qaeda. That is in fact the timeline"
QUESTION: What is your response to the suggestion in the [Aug. 12, 2002] Time [magazine] article that the Bush administration was unwilling to take on board the suggestions made in the Clinton administration because of animus against the — general animus against the foreign policy?
CLARKE: I think if there was a general animus that clouded their vision, they might not have kept the same guy dealing with terrorism issue. This is the one issue where the National Security Council leadership decided continuity was important and kept the same guy around, the same team in place. That doesn't sound like animus against uh the previous team to me.
JIM ANGLE: You're saying that the Bush administration did not stop anything that the Clinton administration was doing while it was making these decisions, and by the end of the summer had increased money for covert action five-fold. Is that correct?
CLARKE: All of that's correct.
ANGLE: OK.
From Bob Woodward's book "Bush At War", page 39.
"Until September 11, however, Bush had not put that thinking [that Clinton's response to al Qaeda emboldened bin Laden] into practice, nor had he pressed the issue of bin Laden. Though Rice and others were developing a plan to eliminate al Qaeda, no formal recommendations had ever been presented to the president.
"I know there was a plan in the works. . . . I don't know how mature the plan was," Bush recalled. . . .He acknowledged that bin Laden was not his focus or that of his national security team. There was a significant difference in my attitude after September 11. I was not on point [before that date], but I knew he was a menace, and I knew he was a problem."
So what is up for debate????
The administration didn't do enough, they funded some ops or kept Clinton strategy in place and this didn't happen until the summer. So far Clarke hasn't flip-flopped or changed his story, Bob Woodward who's very Pro Bush quotes the President: "He acknowledged that bin Laden was not his focus". "Virtually nothing" Clarke is quoted as saying and if you read the whole transcript he is repeating what Bush did, that's fair but was it half assed attempts at attacking terror?
Do you honestly think that the Bush administration WOULDN'T change policies implemented by the Clinton Administration? Much like No Child Left behind leaving it unfunded or lying about the price of his new prescription drug bill it fits the pattern these guys follow: Make a big stink about changing Washington than under fund, or ignore what they have done, if it works reap the benefits if not blame it on someone else.
Still having problems?
Are you going to talk trash about your boss on National TV or undermine your job and the Presidents job? He just repeated what the Administration yet the key question is: *DID they ignore the problem* *Was Iraq more of a focus than terrorism before and after 9/11? *. You are going to spin your position not to make the President look like a punk or undermining your job, that's bad policy if I had someone put me through the shredder in a briefing like that he would be gone that day.
I know how it feels to spin things you don't agree with, if you have ever worked in the business world you will have to put "Pretty faces" on things. It sucks but it needs to be done in order for you to survive as long as it's just not you making up stories or just lying through your teeth. I understand him better after reading the transcript, I relate to him more.
The Administration was involved with PNAC and focused on Iraq from '97 to the election so what changed when Bush took the oath of Office?

I think it's unfair to blame the president for the spread of terror and the diffuseness of it.
Even if he had followed the advice of me and many other people, I still think the same thing would have happened."
-- Sen. Joe Biden, D
"Let's keep it civil so we don't get so nasty that we discourage people from coming out and voting
in a very important election. Kerry must "make sure that we carry on this debate in a way that
doesn't send a mixed message to the Iraqis or our troops there, or to our enemies there...
...so let's not divide ourselves right now."
--Sen. Joe Lieberman
He wanted his party's nomination and hasn't endorsed John Kerry yet, he shouldn't be required to but we know where he stands!
We have a President that lied to the American people into a war, this isn't Oral Sex these are the lives of young men and women in our Armed Services AND the lives of innocent Iraqis, he blood is on his hands. The President was asleep at the switch during 9/11 watch the Booker Video and try not to get upset, reading a goat book while our country is under attack and the lame excuse why he didn't leave to do his job: "I'd scare the children". As Presidnet of the United States do you understand that YOU'RE A FU**ING TARGET? If those planes were closing in on your location who needs to scare the kids they're toast anyways.
But Democrats bend over backwards to support or make excuses for this President, they were rough on Clinton and Dubya gets a pass for lying?
I'm an Independant, I slam everyone no matter who they are or who they think they are I go after them.
Support a real fighter.

Bg day today! Rummy said two stupid things:
Rummy says 9/11 couldn't have been stopped.
BS, the FBI knew where they were and The Bush Administration told them to back off!
Rummy also sai we were planning to invade Afghan in 2001 for Osama.
Duh, the BBC had a story about American troop build up around Afghan prior to 9/11. I believe this proves that we were interested in their oil, remember the Caspian Sea the next big Oil bonanza, well they needed a pipeline through Taliban controlled Afghan. After we attacked "Al-Qaeida" (which by the way the Taliban offered Osama to us before we bombed) The pipeline is up and running we got what we wanted, oh boy.
So two oil rich or oil related countrys get attacked and now have American bases on their soil, exacty what PNAC wanted to do.
Our Government is a kakistocracy

My cold is kicking my tail, the good news is it's at that last leg: headache, tired, stuffy nose I'm losing the battle but winning the war phase.
I'm one of those guys who never use medication unless I really have to and I can count on one hand how many times I've used drugs in the last year twice.
Pepto and cough drops.
I have this problem it's basically I need higher doses to get the same effects you would get with the standard level..I need 8 to 12 Asprin where 2 will do YOU just fine. I need dangerous levels of medication, when I had my Knee operation I woke up twice and wouldn't shut up. They used enough to kill a man double my weight and gave me the pain killer Vicoden after my knee was scoped and my wisdom teeth were removed I have two full bottles just sitting there and I told them I didn't need or want it, but here they are.
So I will just ride it out like I do everything else so if posts are slow tomorrow or the next day I apologize!

Claim Vs. Fact
CLAIM #1: “Richard Clarke had plenty of opportunities to tell us in the administration that he thought the war on terrorism was moving in the wrong direction and he chose not to.” - National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, 3/22/04
FACT: Clarke sent a memo to Rice principals on 1/24/01 marked “urgent” asking for a Cabinet-level meeting to deal with an impending Al Qaeda attack. The White House acknowledges this, but says “principals did not need to have a formal meeting to discuss the threat.” No meeting occurred until one week before 9/11. - White House Press Release, 3/21/04
CLAIM #2: “The president returned to the White House and called me in and said, I've learned from George Tenet that there is no evidence of a link between Saddam Hussein and 9/11.” - National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, 3/22/04
FACT: If this is true, then why did the President and Vice President repeatedly claim Saddam Hussein was directly connected to 9/11? President Bush sent a letter to Congress on 3/19/03 saying that the Iraq war was permitted specifically under legislation that authorized force against “nations, organizations, or persons who planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11.” Similarly, Vice President Cheney said on 9/14/03 that “It is not surprising that people make that connection” between Iraq and the 9/11 attacks, and said “we don’t know” if there is a connection.
CLAIM #3: "[Clarke] was moved out of the counterterrorism business over to the cybersecurity side of things." - Vice President Dick Cheney on Rush Limbaugh, 3/22/04
FACT: "Dick Clarke continued, in the Bush Administration, to be the National Coordinator for Counterterrorism and the President's principle counterterrorism expert. He was expected to organize and attend all meetings of Principals and Deputies on terrorism. And he did." - White House Press Release, 3/21/04
CLAIM #4: “In June and July when the threat spikes were so high…we were at battle stations…The fact of the matter is [that] the administration focused on this before 9/11.” – National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, 3/22/04
FACT: “Documents indicate that before Sept. 11, Ashcroft did not give terrorism top billing in his strategic plans for the Justice Department, which includes the FBI. A draft of Ashcroft's ‘Strategic Plan’ from Aug. 9, 2001, does not put fighting terrorism as one of the department's seven goals, ranking it as a sub-goal beneath gun violence and drugs. By contrast, in April 2000, Ashcroft's predecessor, Janet Reno, called terrorism ‘the most challenging threat in the criminal justice area.’” - Washington Post, 3/22/04
CLAIM #5: “The president launched an aggressive response after 9/11.” – National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, 3/22/04
FACT: “In the early days after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, the Bush White House cut by nearly two-thirds an emergency request for counterterrorism funds by the FBI, an internal administration budget document shows. The papers show that Ashcroft ranked counterterrorism efforts as a lower priority than his predecessor did, and that he resisted FBI requests for more counterterrorism funding before and immediately after the attacks.” – Washington Post, 3/22/04
CLAIM #6: "Well, [Clarke] wasn't in the loop, frankly, on a lot of this stuff…” - Vice President Dick Cheney, 3/22/04
FACT: "The Government's interagency counterterrorism crisis management forum (the Counterterrorism Security Group, or "CSG") chaired by Dick Clarke met regularly, often daily, during the high threat period." - White House Press Release, 3/21/04
CLAIM #7: "[Bush] wanted a far more effective policy for trying to deal with [terrorism], and that process was in motion throughout the spring." - Vice President Dick Cheney on Rush Limbaugh, 3/22/04
FACT: “Bush said [in May of 2001] that Cheney would direct a government-wide review on managing the consequences of a domestic attack, and 'I will periodically chair a meeting of the National Security Council to review these efforts.' Neither Cheney's review nor Bush's took place.” - Washington Post, 1/20/02
Remember, when the "Sour Grapes" claim gets thrown out just drop one name:
Dick Morris
Everytime they say he betrayed the White House, has no Honor....Dick Morris is one BIG sour Grape, he betrayed the White House one of the highest honors given to a person and he's always on O'Reilly, writes in Newsmax, does spots on Hannity's radio show.

Chasing Kevin
Newsweek interviews my favorite director Kevin Smith about his movie Jersey Girl who also directed Chasing Amy which is very similar to my romance with a Lesbian...if only I saw this film in '97 not '99 after the mess was all over, man life would have been easier in '98!
But enough about me, let's go to Kevin.
DAVID ANSEN: "Jersey Girl" is a very brave movie in the sense that you're certainly going to surprise your fans.
KEVIN SMITH: Definitely the 13- and 14-year-old boys who loved "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" can find no purchase in this movie, because it's kind of about the three tiers of maturity, right? Having a job or a career, getting married, having a kid. With the exception of showing Liv Tyler in her bra in the shower, there's not much for them to latch onto. But thankfully the fan base isn't made up just of that. People who jumped onboard with "Clerks" have grown up with us, so they're married and having kids. "Chasing Amy" is not really that different from "Jersey Girl," as much as it's a mixture of comedy and drama, and about relationships—we just swapped out the lesbian for a 7-year-old girl. "Dogma" certainly didn't appeal just to the fart-joke crowd.

Over at Counterspin Hesiod has a great riff on this theme and asks:
"How pathetic is it when John McCain does more to defend John Kerry than the Democratic party?!?"
Unified Democratic party my ASS, we can't play whimpy anymore we never should have done it and you guys in charge should never allowed it to happen!
Call Bush a LIAR: "He's lying because he's scared; that's all he has half truths and fear!"

No wonder he likes to outsource our jobs *Cheap T-Shirts*
~The official merchandise Web site for President George W. Bush's re-election campaign has sold clothing made in Burma, whose goods were banned by Bush from the U.S. last year to punish its military dictatorship.
The merchandise sold on www.georgewbushstore.com includes a $49.95 fleece pullover, embroidered with the Bush-Cheney '04 logo and bearing a label stating it was made in Burma, now Myanmar. The jacket was sent to Newsday as part of an order that included a shirt made in Mexico and a hat not bearing a country-of-origin label.~
They are such hypocrites, it's almost funny if it weren't so tragic.

Today marks the anniversity of the "war" in Iraq
571 soilders dead because Bush lied us into a war to attack phantom WMDs to Phantom Terrorists.
what we know now?
Iraq has more terrorist than it ever had under Saddam
The "Best infastructure" in the middle east has crumbled, sewage running through the streets, constant power outs
Our military has been streched too thin, when a real problem gets shoved in our faces....we won't have international support.
F*ck you Bush

I just caught Wonderfalls, it's pretty good a light comedy that sits in the shade.
The girl is pretty damn nuts, a misformed wax Lion and a Monkey Bust tells Jaye to help people and believe me wackiness DOES insue!
Knowing FOX they will probably cancel it like they did with Firefly and once agin only the worst shows stay on TV (American Idol)
This season will be the last for Angel and that's a damn shame the utter lack of strong, "smart" dramas make watching TV boring to say the least. Angel is a great show, with solid writing, interesting characters in a fake world I'm going to miss. Tv has gotten so stale within the last few years good shows get cancelled such as Farscape another great show while stinkers muck up the TV (Whoopi)
At least we still have
24
The Shield
Stargate SG-1
Until American Idol Tokyo comes up on the Fall line up!

Did anyone catch Alterman on Miller?
Dennis was being such an Dick last night, no debate no fact just mugging and acting like a little kid.
Why show up and do Dennis Miller's show if this is the treatment you get?
He didn't it even try to make his case or prove a point he just let mugged and cursed, it wasn't even funny at all I learned nothing from the interview and it's no suprise he's the lowest cable news program, he's not funny most of the show I feel I should be paid for watching it at home!
When Greg Palast was on his "Varsity Panel" he had two other hostile guests along with Miller attacking him for reporting from Britain to supporting Hugo Chavez; to sum it up Miller basically called Palast unAmerican.
Cancel the show!

Car bomb rocks Iraq
~BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- A powerful explosion, apparently from a car bomb, went off Wednesday night in central Baghdad, killing 28 people and wounding at least 40 others, senior U.S. military officials said.
The blast virtually destroyed the Mount Lebanon Hotel and damaged a number of nearby houses and offices.
The explosion left a 20-foot crater as the hotel erupted into flames.~
I'd like to see the President spend more than two hours there, since it's SO SAFE!

terrorists cannot change the will of our people...Al-Qaieda will not determine our elections....listen to how the debate is framed...A vote for John Kerry is a vote for UBL........

Here's some of the Joe Wilson Article from Salon
~Who will soon forget Ann Coulter's two articles defaming Max Cleland? It's worth noting that not a single supporter of Bush had the decency to defend Cleland and criticize that smear. Instead Coulter's libel was widely circulated by conservatives. And just the other day, Max Boot, a neoconservative publicist who coined the "jodhpur and pith helmet" term to promote his imperialistic view of America's future, decided to smear former Air Force officer Karen Kwiatkowski, as well as retired CIA officer Ray McGovern and myself. These smears must be understood as part of the Bush campaign strategy of "slime and defend." ~
Who did defend Max Cleland, that story got passed around more than Ann Coulter or Monica Crowley at a Republican Orgy and no one cared that they were lying.
Seriously consider Buying a Subscrition to Salon, it's worth the money especially the last three weeks they've been hitting homers everyday!

Lies about ANWR
Hannity: Excuse me. Well, no, no. No. Wait. Don't tell me. I'm reading from the U.S. Geological Survey estimates. It could be as much as 16 -billion barrels of oil, which would be the largest supply of domestic oil ever discovered.
The truth:
U.S. Geological Survey says the amount of oil that could be recovered economically is about 3.2 billion barrels, and even at the peak of production — the year 2027 — oil from ANWR would only contribute about two percent of the oil Americans would use in that year.

The trashing of the White House & Air force One?
Hannity: (1/26/01) "Look, we've had these reports, very disturbing reports -- and I have actually spoken to people that have confirmed a lot of the reports -- about the trashing of the White House. Pornographic materials left in the printers. They cut the phone lines. Lewd and crude messages on phone machines. Stripping of anything that was not bolted down on Air Force One. $200,000 in furniture taken out."
and...
Hannity: (2/6/01) I'd be more willing to cut them some slack and say it was an honest mistake and they weren't involved in the moving if Air Force One wasn't stripped, if they didn't trash the White House, if they didn't set up this -- the equivalent of a bridal registry, if he wasn't taking advantage of the taxpayers."
The Truth: It never happened!
Responding to a request from Rep. Bob Barr, a Georgia Republican, who asked for an investigation, the GSA found that nothing out of the ordinary had occurred.
"The condition of the real property was consistent with what we would expect to encounter when tenants vacate office space after an extended occupancy," according to a GSA statement.
No wholesale slashing of cords to computers, copiers and telephones, no evidence of lewd graffiti or pornographic images. GSA didn't bother to nail down reports of pranks, which were more puckish than destructive.
"They told me that there were papers that were not organized lying on the floor and on desks; there were some scratches here and there, but the bottom line was they didn't see anything really in their view that was significant and that would appear to some as real extensive damage," said Bernard Unger, director for physical infrastructure for the General Accounting Office, which asked GSA to look into the allegations.
Many Pundits fell for this one, the GAO was full of it when they reported the trashing of the White House & Air Force One. It's a political smear carried out by the Republican's sitting in our house!

Truman's remarks "Newsmax propaganda"
The Times headline writer continued, "Truman Tells Chicago Audience a Republican Victory Will Threaten U.S. Liberty - Says When Bigots, Profiteers Get Control of Country They Select 'Front Man' to Rule."

Spain's opposition Socialist party has claimed an unexpected victory in the country's general election with almost all the votes counted.
The Socialists have won 43% of the vote while the centre-right Popular Party has garnered 38%, reports say.
The poll has been clouded by claims that al-Qaeda carried out the Madrid bomb attacks that killed 200 people.
Officials said turnout was 62.9% just before voting ended - higher than the 55.5% at the same time in 2000's poll.
Aznar gets defeated because he supported Bush's Turkey shoot.

Interview with Ray McGovern from Mother Jones
MJ.com: When did you and the other retired/resigned intelligence officers begin to think that the intelligence was being distorted or misused by the Bush administration?
RM: It was pretty clear early on, certainly in 2002.
We established our group, Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity, in January of last year. Before that several of us had been writing op-eds, and we had been giving each other sanity checks, because the conclusions we were coming up with were pretty far out -- that the President and the Secretary of State were lying through their teeth.

New rules for New Tax Cuts!
The Senate dealt a surprising election-year rebuke on Wednesday to the White House goal of new tax cuts as it narrowly backed a new rule to require at least 60 votes to approve any tax cuts in the next five years.
Four Republican senators — Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island, John McCain of Arizona and Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe, both of Maine — joined Democrats in the 51-to-48 vote.
Let's balance the budget, wrangle in spending, pay down the debt, If we don't we will have more taxes!

Does Bush have a pair?
"2004 can't be just another year of politics as usual," Kerry said in the text. "The challenges we face are just too grave and too great.
"We confront big issues -- as big as any in our history -- and they call for a new and historic commitment to a real and informed exchange of ideas."
Debate him, don't be a coward Georgie!

The right wing ignore Florida Voter purge!
Leave it to the masters of a Coup to ignore it's own actions to attack Al Franken's new book.
Excerpt: #5: Franken Casts His Vote
On page 256 of Lies, Franken charges that the Republican party in Florida set out to "deliberately purge" "tens of thousands of blacks" before the 2000 presidential election. Franken doesn’t cite any source for this claim. No wonder.
The truth is that long before the 2000 election, the voter rolls in Florida were a monstrous mess, and voter fraud was a big problem. For example, a man named Manuel Yip was a regular voter who cast ballots four times between 1993 and 1997.1 But when the 2000 election rolled around, his name was nowhere to be found on the voter rolls. Why? Was it a Florida Republican Party gone rabid, as Franken would claim, trying to "deliberately purge" potentially damaging Democratic votes? Was Yip a convicted felon? The answer is no to both. Yip had been dead for nearly eight years.2 Yet he had cast ballots in four Florida elections.3 This should amaze everyone but Shirley MacLaine.
It was actually the law and duty of the government of Florida to try to reform the voter rolls before the 2000 election. Back in 1998, they passed major legislation in an attempt to mend their badly broken system.4 Were mistakes made in the ensuing two years in trying to clean things up? It appears so. But were "tens of thousands" of blacks "purged" from the rolls as part of a vast, right-wing, Republican, racist maneuver, as Franken so clearly implies? With the facts, the answer should be no.
By the way, the Miami Herald’s 1997-1998 investigation into Miami’s vote fraud was so explosive, it earned the paper The Pulitzer Prize for Investigative Reporting in 1999. (The piece was first published on February 1, 1998).5

Was there a voter purge in Florida?
This is a transcript as found on Scoobie Davis
SCOOBIE: Well, that’s practical politics. He really didn’t have a chance against Pataki. You have to put your resources towards viable candidates, such as getting rid of George, er, I’m sorry, Jeb Bush, who was responsible for purging tens of thousands of minority voters from the polls back in 2000 through this felony—
HANNITY: Can I ask you—what is it about all these liberals; they’re so filled with vitriol. They so filled with animosity. Sir, no such thing happened. It’s an absolute lie and it’s even a bigger disgrace that you repeat the lie.
SCOOBIE: BBC journalist Greg Palast—
HANNITY: BBC, now we’re quoting the Brits, okay.
SCOOBIE: He did a study and he found how Katherine Harris and Jeb Bush used the felony voter purge to get tens of thousands of eligible voters off the voter rolls and these people didn’t have access to any kind of ballot once they were at the polls—
[HANNITY DISCONNECTS SCOOBIE]
HANNITY: First of all, that’s untrue. It’s never been proven. It’s never even been alleged except by the real extreme left like yourself. But what is true and what was chronicled is the systematic disenfranchisement of brave men and women who were out there serving their country—and that’s what Al Gore did. We have to break...
Either Hannity is lying or ill informed both of which happen quite often but I would go with the third option...Willfully ignorant. If you ignore the facts you can make a better case, leave out facts win your argument.

Once again Kerry NEVER voted to "Gut" the CIA
~ In terms of accuracy, the parry by the president is about half right. Bush is correct that Kerry on Sept. 29, 1995, proposed a five-year, $1.5 billion cut to the intelligence budget. But Bush appears to be wrong when he said the proposed Kerry cut -- about 1 percent of the overall intelligence budget for those years -- would have "gutted" intelligence. In fact, the Republican-led Congress that year approved legislation that resulted in $3.8 billion being cut over five years from the budget of the National Reconnaissance Office -- the same program Kerry said he was targeting.~
Again, a serious lie!

Military and Intelligence budget cuts?
Hannity: John Kerry is now out there…And he’s trying to say, “I voted for the biggest intelligence budget in the history in the Pentagon budget.” But he wanted to cancel SDI and every major weapons system. Specific votes that he would have canceled the weapons systems we now use. That is not an ad hominem attack. That is a legitimate, accurate portrayal of his record.
No Sean that's not legit: As seen on Slate.
The "Specific votes"
"It is instructive, however, to look at the footnotes. Almost all of them cite Kerry's vote on Senate bill S. 3189 ( CQ Vote No. 273) on Oct. 15, 1990. Do a Google search, and you will learn that S. 3189 was the Fiscal Year 1991 Defense Appropriations Act, and CQ Vote No. 273 was a vote on the entire bill. There was no vote on those weapons systems specifically .
On a couple of the weapons, the RNC report cites H.R. 5803 and H.R. 2126. Look those up. They turn out to be votes on the House-Senate conference committee reports for the defense appropriations bills in October 1990 (the same year as S. 3189) and September 1995."
On Kerry "Gutting" the CIA
"One thing is true: Kerry did introduce a bill on Sept. 29, 1995—S. 1290—that, among many other things, would have cut the intelligence budget by $300 million per year over a five-year period, or $1.5 billion in all.
But let's look at that bill more closely.
First, would such a reduction have "gutted" the intelligence services? Intelligence budgets are classified, but private budget sleuths have estimated that the 1995 budget totaled about $28 billion . Thus, taking out $300 million would have meant a reduction of about 1 percent. This is not a gutting."
Sean Hannity made an Ad Hominem, inaccurate statement on John Kerry's voting record!

After years of Democrats making apologies for having their own opinions on something This is so refreshing!
~ "I have no intention whatsoever of apologizing for my remarks," Kerry said during a news conference on the Senate side of the Capitol. "I think the Republicans need to start talking about the real issues before the country." ~
Rep. Tom DeLay and Sen. Rick Santorum have no ground to complain!

Yeah, Electronic voting is better than paper ballots...
~Approximately 7,000 Orange County voters were given the wrong ballots in last week's election by poll workers unfamiliar with a new electronic voting system, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday.~
scary it, ain't it?

CBS projects that John Kerry has enough Delegates to snag the nomination.
~Kerry won primaries Tuesday in Florida, Texas, Mississippi and Louisiana, largely without major opposition. He won about 75 percent of the vote in Florida and Mississippi, and about two-thirds in the other states.
The wins give Kerry 2,174 delegates (including so-called "super-delegates"), according to a CBS News tally, surpassing the 2,162 needed to win the Democratic nomination.~
Alright, one step closer!

The RNC chair was on the Daily show last night and man the guys slow on the uptake if you get what I mean.
Slimey and untrustworthy and not very funny.
I don't think the DNC chair is all that funny or clever either.

I really don't like Internet explorer in PC or Mac form
Take this blog for instance. on my IE on my windows machine the pics on the side end up at the bottom but in Mozilla it's perfect
On my Mac
Safari, Camino (Mozilla), icab, perfectly fine, perfect looks fine, no problems...on my IE it doesn't even load.
On other windows machines IE works fine and doesn't conflict my IE on windows doesn't auto configure the resolution for the web page...and Mozilla does I spent three hours pouring over code trying to figure out why it does that.
this and that so I asked for help and found out it looked fine on three other people's web sites so once again IE sucks.
Open source is the wave of the future Operating systems like OS X, Linux, Unix and open source Browsers like Mozilla, Camino, Safari are by far superiour browsers to anything IE can do.
Almost all of my CP problems went away when I switched to Mac and Linux for my PCs, don't switch back if you can avoid it...buggy crappy software.

An epitaph for Scoobie?
Surfing today I visited the web site of one Scoobie Davis! one of my favorite sites on the net for a good reason; his prank phone calls have been second to none reading his archives and his opinions makes for great reading on the net.
Then there was his last post "I quit" The Utah Democratic state chair had his @$$ handed to him by Sean Hannity if you've read it you'll know what I mean. It was brutal but worst yet he chair was unprepared for the call! Go to Hannity is a moron and look documented cases of Sean hannity being divisive or go to Scoobie Davis site or Read Al Franken's book or Spinsanity or The Daily Howler or type into Google Sean Hannity Lies!
Proof that Sean Hannity is a propagandist liar is out there it's not hard to find!
Yet he bumbles through his interview, sounds retarded and Hannity looks like a winner over a DNC LEADER!
But what pisses me off besides being sloppy the same DNC chair refuses to have an open debate, away from the dreaded mute button, a debate I would have helped him win!
But in Scoobie's own words:
~If the sad episodes I just described were isolated incidences, it would be one thing. It’s not. Much of the Democratic Party establishment is out-of-touch and has no clue about politics. These people don’t know the score. What is worse is that they are getting paid to be incompetent.
Politics 101: It’s about winning. It’s about stepping up to the plate and doing what needs to be done.~
Sadly he's 100% right, I'm a Liberal but I'm not a Democrat...they don't represent me and I seriously doubt that any of the party leaders have any real Convictions! do these guys even want to win? Is the Democratc party on life suport? In life wining is based on one thing: who wants it more!
it's no suprise to me that the Green party is growing in every election, if you've ever worked with any Activists or the Progressive student organizations at the high school or college. It's refreshing to see the energy the passion these people have than contrasted to the Democratic party I've been exposed to...dead silence, running in safe mode the entire way through. I know for a fact it isn't just local everywhere I go, people I talk to all agree that the party is stale and bad for the people they represent. It makes me angry that the Right wing can lie without worrying about an opposition party to call them on it. The "Liberal Press" is about as Liberal Dick Cheney and it shows in articles and op/eds again.again, and again. That wasn't a plea for a Liberal press but a free one, devoid of politics, it might be a lofty dream on my part but Hannity would be called on his lies, so would Coulter, O'Reilly and these other liars who call themselves "journalists".
The DNC is lazy, old and outdated...were the Deaniacs the last spark of hope the Democratic party It's so damn fustrating not to have people who want a better America and the only way you do that is by WINNING ELECTIONS!
Who do we have on TV
Alan Colmes?
Tammy Bruce?
Susan Estrich?
I am formally giving the Republican party ownership of all three of them HAVE THEM, we don't want them!
So now we have are losing someone we needed because The Utah Democratic party wanted to lose, wanted to look like bummbling cowards ask anyone why they become Jaded to politics or Church or their careers if this is it, if that is all we have to look forward to during the campaign GOD SAVE AMERICA..
It always seems we have a losing fight, pick up your local paper, turn on your TV and the same loaded BS is shovelled right into our mouths and what does the DNC do? they ask for "More Please". Give me a job at the DNC, let me at these bastards...oh no you might say something to upset them, you might call the on their lies!
So here is the solution!
1. Stop being tofu eating pandering little Corporate sellouts: FIGHT BACK, TAKE THE OFFENSIVE!
2. Stand up and say something, get in their faces because you know they do.
3. If your local Democratic party are stale register, Green and TELL THEM WHY AND MAKE THEM FIGHT TO HAVE YOUR MEMBERSHIP!
4. Flood usless "Leaders" with e-mails, letters and phone calls, especially This Utah Putz
5. Vote for John Kerry in the General election and elect progressives to office and once there Hold them to their voting records!
Lose your apathy and just fight to win, let's start with putting John Kerry in office(*)

Rep. Peter king (R) said it was conspiracy on the part of an NYC muslim leader to say any of the hijackers were alive, the question really is Are some of the 9/11 Hijackers alive?
Now if I were to exploit 9/11, I'd use the REAL firefighters and other REAL heros but Bush has actors playing the parts, it shocked me to hear that until I found out The REAL reason Bush didn't use REAL heros!

Thanks to Kos for a preview of Kerry's radio address
"We cannot let the strongest armed forces in the world be weakened. America's greatest military strength has always been the courageous, talented men and women whose love of country and devotion to service lead them to attempt and achieve the impossible everyday. We must resolve that America's leaders will never let them down.
"Yet we hear reports that - in dangerous parts of Iraq - our helicopters are flying missions without the best available anti-missile systems.
"At the same time, un-armored Humvees are falling victim to road-side bombs and small-arms fire. The Bush Administration waited through month after month of ambushes and only acted to start manufacturing armored door kits three months ago.
"The Army's 428th Transportation Company, headquartered in Jefferson City, Missouri, shipped out to Iraq two weeks ago. They had to ask local businesses to donate the steel to armor their vehicles. When the Bush Administration heard about this, their response wasn't `never again.' It was `good idea' - they emailed instructions to other units letting them know how they could use homemade armor to protect their own Humvees from attacks. I believe our soldiers deserve better.
"Even more shocking, tens of thousands of other troops arrived in Iraq to find that - with danger around every corner - there wasn't enough body armor to protect them. Many of their families on the homefront - mothers and fathers, husbands and wives and children - were forced to raise the money to buy it for them. They went to their neighbors for donations - and dipped into their savings to give their sons and daughters the equipment to save their lives - which the Army should be providing. Last month, a young newlywed in Virginia even gave her husband body armor for Valentine's Day as he prepared to ship out to Iraq.
"Families should be sending pictures and care packages to Iraq - and the Department of Defense should be sending the body armor. Today, I call on President Bush to support a law now in Congress to reimburse each and every family who had to buy the body armor this Administration failed to provide. This month, I will also be introducing a Military Family Bill of Rights to prevent anything like this from ever happening again.
"What we face isn't a question of the budget; it's a question of priorities and values. This Administration has given billions to Halliburton and requested 82 million dollars to protect Iraq's 36 miles of coast line. But they call this basic body armor a `non-priority' item. "
Let's see if Kerry can keep it up.

As you can tell I've made quite a few changes to the blog over the last few days!
News links galore, new color scheme, bright and happy!
The more I learn about HTML over the next few days I will use to beef up this blog even more!
More good news
I finally got a cable modem hooked up yesterday!!!
Streaming video/audio FAST DOWNLOADS It sucked down a 89.9 mpeg video file in less than 5 minutes!
That is some great pull and the speeds go between 1.7 M to 964 K and so far over the last 10 hours I haven't dropped to lesser than 1.3 even with an active user using bandwidth, that's rare for cable hook-up...I think it's because of the amount of users on this new hub the area just got this new service in January so our collective table probably isn't being used yet.
So it looks as if Kerry is going to be the nominee after all, I remember when Dean and Clark were running head to head all across the country, here in Cali Clark was ahead in all the polls than we let happen what we promised we'd never do....let the Republicans define the argument!
Hannity, O'Reilly, Blitzer, countless of other gutless reporters labeled Dean crazy, hot headed, Clark as a bumbler. My theory is as follows: The media attacks the candidates who have the bravest ideas or just the best overall candidate. Kerry is the safe bet voters for those voters and it's a shame the primary was over before I had a chance to vote, might as well have voted Lyndon LaRouche it was decided ahead of time who our opposition leader is.
To state for the record again I supported no one in the primary I would have preferred Clark over Kerry but it didn't happen.
Kerry still has to win my support...will I vote for him?
Yes
Will I campaign for him?
Yes
My main problem with Kerry is that he's an active member of Skull and Bones, these guys eat off of Hitler's dinnerware and have a history of anti-semitism. That for me isn't the worst, the worst happens to be the matter of Geronimo's skull being on display. As an Native American it's the biggest fuc* you, punch in the mouth you can imagine. What if someone removed Prescott Bush's skull from his grave and put it up for display? I know for a fact how Bush would react...with righteous anger because that's a morbid violation of society.
But it's OK for an Indian to be displayed like some trophey...your grandparents are off limits but ours are fair game.
If Kerry were to rally the return the REAL skull back to where it should be I'll man phone booths, hang fliers, campaign like a storm but I don't see that happening. If he just said "I want to see this warrior returned home, fixing a grave injustice to the Apache people has been neglected for too long: I apologize..men of conscience have a moral duty to correct mistakes, his name was Geronimo...So I ask of my fellow Bonesmen; return his remains to his people and let us show respect for this proud warrior and his proud people by letting him rest."
Skull and Bones pisses on Native Americans, I hope Kerry does the right thing because I don't want to sit this one out and I will always be fair to Kerry regardless of what happens, notice the lack of Kerry/intern on the blog? If someone lies about him I'll defend him because Bush is a danger and there's no way in Hell Dubya gets my vote in 2004!
Here in California we had props 55 and 56 fail while 57 and 58 passed on Tuesday.
I voted yes on 55, No on 56, NO on 57 and yes on 58
Balanced budgets are important, we're still paying of bonds that have been around longer than I have been alive so why make more debt to pay down your existing debt? You don't do that because you get into a bigger hole every time you do that.
I worry about the effect the Ahhhnald has on normal people here.
"Why did you vote for him? "
"He was the Terminator"
Better watch out Frodo is running for State Senate.
"Why'd you vote for Elijah Wood?"
"He's a hero with a true heart!"
Mark Hamil for state Controller
"He's a Jedi who fights against the dark side"
Good night and remember comments good or bad go to Smafty Mail on the top of the page! (*)

Repost: Blogger index set the wrong date so here is the post for Saturday Febuary 28. 2004
I finished networking my home and WAHOOO it all works!
It was as quick as I thought it would be the only problems I ran into was the Coax cable head put on by whoever did the Cable wring for the house put the head on wrong so when I disconnected the cable I was forced to jimmy with it for 30 minutes to fix it.
MY INSTALLATION: Perfect, no problems, clean and most importantly everything works!
I'm upset that I had to wait a week for it to stop raining and dry up before I used the electric drill but hey it's all good and it's finished now!

I just voted
I voted about 15 minutes ago at my polling station!
I'm so glad I didn't get hasseled this time, you see last time I voted I asked for the non-partisian Democratic ticket the poller said
"You're an Non-Partasin, so you get the non-partasin sheet!"
Than I said
"I know I'm an Independant but I want to vote using the non partasin Democratic voter"
"No, you can't vote like that"
"According to the Voters rights pamphelet on the table (I flip to it) I can vote using a Democratic ticket."
Than it became go time
"You vote using that card or don't vote"
While this is all going on the other pollers were rolling their eyes the scattered "just give it to him, let him sign" I was very upset at the fact this guys was TELLING ME HOW TO VOTE! I won't be told what to do or who to vote for that's what totalitarians do, tell you who to vote for, deny you your rights.
So I looked him right in the eye and said
"If you don't I'll call the cops and the county supervisor you're denying me my civil rights"
He said
"Fuc* you" and let them hand me the card, I voted and SHAZAM it was over.
I'm so glad that kind of mess didn't have to happen this time around!!!
